Thomaz Bellucci rallied to earn an upset-win over Fernando Gonzalez at the Movistar Open late Saturday. The Brazilian advances to contest the final against former finalist Juan Monaco on Sunday.
Third seed Thomaz Bellucci is through to the Movistar Open final after dismissing defending champion Fernando Gonzalez Saturday night. The Brazilian rallied from a set down to record a victory in three sets, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3. Bellucci successfully snapped the Chilean’s quest for a fifth title on home soil. Gonzalez, dropping to 1-1 in the head-to-head with the 22-year-old, had won 12 consecutive matches at the Movistar Open prior to Saturday’s defeat.
Gonzalez earned a break of serve at 3-2 in the opener, courtesy of an errant forehand strike from Bellucci. The Chilean took advantage of a nervous Brazilian, who netted a backhand on set point at 5-3. Gonzalez captured 15 of 19 first-service points en route to notching the 37-minute set.
Gonzalez continued his solid play in set two, cracking a familiar forehand winner to pocket a break at 1-1. Despite trailing by a set and a break, Bellucci began to strike his forehand more accurately. The Brazilian was rewarded for his effort, taking his first break point in the eighth game. A lucky net cord helped secure the service break for Bellucci, giving him ample time to hit a forehand winner past Gonzalez. The 22-year-old went on to win four consecutive games, stealing the 6-4 set in 38 minutes.
Bellucci pressed on in the third, collecting triple break-point in the sixth game. A weary-looking Gonzalez, who called for the trainer earlier in the set, served his way out of trouble to level at 3-3. The Brazilian converted a break point at 4-3, benefiting from a forehand miss by the Chilean. Bellucci, holding triple match-point in short order, booked a finals berth with a well-timed forehand pass.
Bellucci ended the evening with 21 winners and four of six break-point opportunities converted. Gonzalez donated eight double-faults and 36 unforced errors during the one hour and 55-minute clash.
Bellucci moves on to face 2008 runner-up Juan Monaco for the championship on Sunday. The Argentine passed through his semifinal match comfortably, besting qualifier Joao Souza in straight sets.

surprising only cause it was in Chile. Bellucci could be a future Roland Garros one-slam wonder.
I'm just glad he is going to be seeded for the French this spring.

Belluccis game is somewhat similar to Nadal, of course not as good as Nadal but he is definitely a very dangerous player on clay
