Tennis talker Boris Becker says Andy Murray needs insight from the top iconic names in the game if he's to get over the top and finally claim a Grand Slam title.
But the 42-year-old German, who won the first of his three Wimbledons at age 17, immediately ruled himself out for that particular job.
"You need to talk to people like John McEnroe, Jimmy Connors, someone Andy would listen to and respect," Becker wrote in London's Daily Telegraph. "For Murray, it is now about playing the right shot at the right time, not running or going to the gym."
Becker said Murray needed guidance on a daily basis from an experienced coach, despite the success in his own hammered-together Team Murray staffed mainly by friends and other part-time experts including Spain's two-time French Open finalist Alex Corretja.
"Andy will be among the top men's players over the next five years, but if he wants to be above them, not amid them, he needs to have someone in his corner who knows what it is like to win a grand slam, to climb the Mount Everest of tennis," wrote Becker.
"The air is thin up there, and Andy needs to surround himself with people who have been to the summit, who can describe to him how they got there, and how he can as well."
Becker gave credit to the Murray camp for making the 22-year-old Scot "the third best player on the planet - but you cannot learn the skills you need out on the centre court from a book, or from hearsay." Becker advised Murray to get to work on developing an even more aggressive game.

sensible advise from Becker. I guess he rules out coaching himself. (Pretty amusing how posters issue challenges or critique other players, when they themselves never faced Fed on the tennis court).

deuce -
Johnny Mac's been offering input from very early on, but muzz has not been for taking it. Becker's just saying what we were saying here a few weeks ago ... that muzz needs a boss figure with real stature/authority, like stefanki or, as becker says, a former top player - i.e. someone who can speak to muzz from above rather than a 'yes' person from around him or below.
Federer:)

Nope! Murray needs to introspect and only have belief in himself. As Roger told him the other day that he is too good aplayer not to win a slam, don't worry about it. He meant it. I suggest let him just enjoy the game only to entertain rather than win a slam. Slams will come to him and in plenty as soon as he just enjoys his game relaxed to the hilt. He is the next best thing, better than the others in the fray. Look at Chilic. This guy has everything and does conceal all emotions and brave to tell its not the burn out of playing three five set matches that came in his way to reach the next stage. You need to play at the level of your eighty percent most of the time and raise to your ninety, ninetyfive and then hundred. Slam will come and they will com aplenty. Come Murray enjoy your game.

Johnny Mac offerered himself to Federer as well when Federer's outlook was bleak... I think shortly after Wimby 2008. Maybe Murray will go through another heartache just like Fed at AO2009 then everything will come together LOL
