Rafael Nadal says he's learned from his errors of 2009 when he pushed a right knee problem too hard and paid the price my crashing out of the French Open and missing his Wimbledon title defense.
The Spaniard is hopeful of a quick return after being forced to quit in the third set of his Australian Open quarterfinal against Andy Murray, with the Brit reaching the semis after a 6-3, 7-6, 3-0 win.
Nadal says he won't repeat the past: "I said (I would not) repeat the same mistake like I had last year. I go to the limit, but not cross the limit."
The Spaniard is entered in the Rotterdam event starting in 12 days, a date which he might not now be able to keep. He lost the Dutch final last year to Murray feeling a similar kind of pain.
But Nadal said that he feels he can heal the problem without the loss of much court time. "I leave this tournament very happy about my level because the perspective is much better right now than two or three months ago when I lost in the Masters Cup (London year-end event).
"I didn't have lot of (knee) problems for the last six months. I felt something from I think was a bad movement. This not because the knee is tired. I think this is going to be OK."

Rafa?s injury is not caused by the magnitude of matches played. He has not played too many matches so far; it is the pressure he had to endure playing an outstanding match with an in form Murray. If this injury proves not to be serious I do not see how anyone can think that Rafa should skip hard court matches. He still is one of the greatest even on that surface. By looking at other players, Rafa is not the only one suffering from injuries: Roddick, DelPo, Djokovic today was having some health issues. It happens and while I do agree Rafa has to be more careful with his schedule for 2010 yet mu opinion is that he must continue playing hard court matches and winning them. His current form is close to his best, he has to work on his serve to shorten his points and that would be good enough. He must avoid whenever possible the long rallies and run less, and he should be perfectly fine. I know many of the players (and their fans!) would like to see Rafa skipping hard court matches for he is very difficult to deal with and they can never be sure with him as he is the one who is always able to eliminate his opponents...

very glad he's taking more care of himself this year. if only he'd done the same last year he might not being this situation now

A little more on the knees (I read it on VB). Rafa felt a "crunch" in his knees when he was running for a ball on Andy's serve after the break for fireworks. He is flying back to Barcelona to get it checked out. His camp do not think it's related to the tendinitis. (i took that from a fan page. but also read it on vb)

He should play fewer events and he shouldn't enter fewer clay court events this year, last year he played way too many clay court events back to back. He also needs to stop playing doubles. AS for now he should rush his come back, i think he should not come back to tennis before Indian Wells and Miami Masters.

The problem is that Rafa has pulled out of a grand slam event, no less. I couldn't see him doing that as a precautionary measure, can anybody - in a grand slam, really? And certainly not if he had been leading by two sets to love at the time.
The slams are what the greats live for. I am certain that this is serious, and we can definitely say goodbye to Rotterdam and very likely Davis Cup too.

Opps typing mistakes i meant to say he should enter fewer clay court events and shouldn't rush his comeback.

I'm not a man of withdrawals,it is what the less I like, I'm not going to make mistakes that I made last year and not going to the limit until the end. --- RAFAEL NADAL,,,,,,, This is a case of "HEALTH or WEALTH".......... I'm glad he made the RIGHT choice!

Great to hear that the injury won't keep him out for too long. I certainly cannot wait to see him return to full fitness, and I know the tennis community who matter, like the sponsors can't wait either, irrespective of what the likes of Solitude or whatever you are called thinks.
Get Well Soon Rafa

Solitude! you cannot resist can you! shame on you.
Well it seems according to a spanish article that Rafa has torn his quadricep muscle and will be out prehaps for a month, his participation @ Indian wells is questionable we will see.
This is hard on Rafa just as he was finding some awsome form, at least its not tendonitis but its not a pretty injury either.

Sorry Nadal dear, you don't have to put so much effort on your crumbling knees. And yes, don't repeat the mistake of venturing too much into the Hard Court tournaments, or these things might happen even more.
Better concentrate more on the clay court tournaments, those seems perfectly suited for you, and you won't much have these sort of troubles that you are having here these days. Better focus on picking up all the clay court tournaments as much as possible, or your slump in the rankings might accelerate.
