  • Djokovic hoping to benefit from Tsonga rematch

    1/26/10 9:55 AM | Johan Lindahl
Djokovic hoping to benefit from Tsonga rematch World No. 3 Novak Djokovic is determined to aim for a higher place among the elite, his first test coming in the form of a re-run of the 2008 Australian Open final he won over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

His upcoming quarter-final against the Frenchman will be a tough test, but one that he knows he needs to pass. "I could have done a bit better in the Grand Slams, I agree on that. Probably that was one of the reasons that I didn't get the step further in the rankings.

The 23-year-old with three titles during the closing months of 2009, added: "They are where I want to make the best impact, best result."

Djokovic will also try to shape a 2010 schedule which will aid him in attempting his dream. But finding free time in the 11-month calendar is always a tough ask.

"It's really hard to shorten the schedule at this moment. We have a lot of commitment events. You got to show up at, you know, 17, 18 tournaments a year, plus Davis Cup. "So the season is not gonna be much shorter than the one in 2009."

Djokovic in 4 sets at the most, i dont think Tsonga can win more than 1 set, take nothing away from almagro but if Tsonga wants to challenge for majors he will need to beat players like almagro more convincingly not 9-7 in the 5th

Hoping is the right word. With Rafa out, Nole is under preassure. We all know what happened whenever he had to take the #2 spot???? Never underestimate Jo. He can be a killer!!!! Just ask all the players they will confirm it!!!!! Ask Nole!!!!!! All I am hoping for is a good performance against Tsonga!!!!!! Everything else will come if it comes in due time!!!!!!!! Nole's big test is tonight! Hajde Nole!!!!!!! Please ignore rankings and perform your best tennis.

Novak in maximum 4 sets, probably in straights!! Tsonga played much better 2008,and then he was underdog,Novak knows how to beat him,he beat him last time in Miami 09,even he wasn't in good form like he is now..The one thing:NOVAK MUSTN'T THINK ON RANKING!!!!If the ranking is in his head,he could have problems, only mentally..He has to walk on the court and turn off his thought on anything else..He will read Tsonga;s serves rea;;y well, all depends od this, and he will do that..I hope that form tomorrow,we all have new world no2...
