(7) Andy Roddick def. Thomaz Bellucci 6-3, 6-4, 6-4
Seventh seed Andy Roddick booked his place in the third round Wednesday afternoon, following a comfortable win over Brazilian Thomaz Bellucci. After taking a two-set lead, Roddick earned the final break of serve at 3-3 in the third. The American dropped serve only once on the afternoon, sealing the 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 victory in two hours and 12 minutes. The four-time semifinalist ended the day with 27 winners and four of 12 break points converted.
Roddick will square off against either Feliciano Lopez or Rainer Schuettler in the next round.
(11) Fernando Gonzalez def. Marsel Ilhan 6-3, 6-4, 7-5
Eleventh seed Fernando Gonzalez posted another straight-sets win on Wednesday, downing Marsel Ilhan of Turkey, 6-3, 6-4, 7-5. Relying on his trademark forehand, the 2007 Australian Open finalist collected a service break at 2-1 in the opening set. The Chilean continued the momentum in set two, breaking the Ilhan serve in the critical seventh game. Gonzalez took a break lead at 6-5 in the third, holding on to close the match after 111 minutes of play.
Gonzalez, who struck 51 total winners, will face Evgeny Korolev in round three.
Evgeny Korolev def. (21) Tomas Berdych 6-4, 6-4, 7-5
Evgeny Korolev leveled the head-to-head series at 1-1 with Tomas Berdych late Wednesday afternoon. Korolev fought to defeat the 21st seed despite relinquishing multiple leads- including a 4-1 advantage in the second set. Berdych missed a chance to snag the third set, unable to consolidate a break earned at 4-4. The 21-year-old completed the two-hour and 21-minute clash converting seven of 12 break=point opportunities.
Korolev meets 11th seed Gonzalez for their fourth career meeting on Friday. The Chilean holds a 2-1 lifetime advantage heading into the third-round battle.

chr18,he didnot abuse the umpire like federer did and it was not that serious.plus it was on a match pnt so he was concerned, strange behaviour anyway, should be avoided and roddick should be warned mildly for these eruptions becoz he just speaks too much some times.

i'm getting sick of roddick. like he has to hear himself. he was mouthing off the umpires and linesmen through sydney and he's doing it again. he was abusive, they many times had to silence his swear words on tv. i hope he gets a fine or his ass kicked in the next round.
homos , 1/20/10 4:58 PM
sorry but i could not hear the abusive words, what exactly did he say?? ea andy roddik demeans umpires as if the are his servants. and he admitted in his interview that it was not what he was thniking on the court,i was a very tough decision.
vamosrafa , 1/20/10 5:35 PM
i don't know what swear words he used because the tv silenced the words each time he yelled it. but he was basically telling the chair ump that the cu had no right to predict whether he(rod) would be able to get to a ball or not. he went on and on about it like a jerk. the cu was trying to explain something to him (presumably the rule about whether your racket touches a ball determines whether the pt is replayed) but roddick wouldn't let him and walked to his chair without shaking hands and still was not satisfied. when he was shouting at the chair ump in sydney over a linesman's call, i already was getting tired of him. whether he might be right or not, it's getting tiring!

Yea ... I hope Feli beats him.

Roddick should get banned for his abuse at officials

Whoops I oviously used some bad language of my own in my post. I see the moderators have changed it ... it sounds very civilized now.:)

I dislike any kind of yelling, cursing at the umpire, screaming, bashing rackets or any other childish tantrums. I thought Roddick overreacted. To go on and on ad nauseum after the match is over and you have made your point at least ten times, screaming in the umpire's face, is just silly.
Roddick has a tendency to run his big mouth off way too much for my taste. I mean, what's the problem? He's back, he's healthy, he's playing well, so just let it go for heaven's sake!

agree with the posters and think Roddick has great chances if he gets to the SF. He looks really sharp.

vamosrafa,
It wasn't muted on ESPN2 and my TV was loud so I heard what he said. Let's just say the first word starts with bull and Patrick McEnroe apologised for him and as he was doing that Roddick let out an f-bomb and McEnroe apologised again but downplayed it since he's DC captain for the USA team and clearly biased. I hate American TV because while Cilic and Tomic were playing they actually replayed Roddick's match, as if once wasn't enough.

chr18, thnx for giving details.thats cheap and shameful ,shud be punished so that he learns a lesson

I hope that prick Roddick gets fined for his expletive-laced tirade at the end of his match. It was heard on ESPN and if Fed got fined, he should too. Why do that after you've already won the match? Not cool.................
