Fabrice Santoro becomes the only man to compete in Grand Slam events over different four decades when he steps onto court against Croatian 14th seed Marin Cilic at the Australian Open.
"It was going to be my last match in Paris, but I couldn't resist to be in Melbourne," said the 37-year-old playing a record 46th straight time in a major.
"The invitation came to me and I said `Oh, I just want to go there, buy my ticket, practise a few weeks and play the Australian Open one more time."
Santoro made a Grand Slam debut at 1989 Roland Garros; he is also playing his 18th Australian open - another record.
"I want to be competitive, I've working hard for a few weeks to be ready for one more Grand Slam. I know that a Grand Slam match can go to five hours and I'm 37, so it's tough, especially in Melbourne where the temperature can be over 40 degrees.
"I want to play one more match for sure, I would like to win and then I would be out on the big stage, out there playing with a smile."
