Rafael Nadal may be starting to follow widespread advice to curb his tennis enthusiasm for the sake of his long-running injuries.
It now appears that the world No. 2 will not play in next month's rich Barclays event in Dubai in a field headed by Roger Federer.
Reports from the Gulf do not show the Spaniard in the field for the ATP side of the event beginning February 22.
Nadal began 2010 by victory at the unofficial six-man tournament in Abu Dhabi, where Federer lost in the semi-finals to Robin Soderling. Nadal and Federer have both begun the current ATP campaign in Doha this week.
Nadal has confirmed that he will likely use his time in February after playing in Rotterdam to rest, given his history of knee problems. "I don’t think I’ll play in Dubai," said the four-time Roland Garros champion.
"But it depends if I have very bad results in Doha, Australia and Rotterdam - then maybe. But so far, it's not on my calendar," he told local Gulf media.

it doesn't matter where you get points
it will all be the same at the end of the year

I am glad that #rafa is skipping Dubai, heard this before, he needs to rest where he can and just work on his serve and shots, get in a little extra training.

rafa does not have any points to defend in this tourny.......i feel he should play only in those tournaments where his points are at stake.....perhaps skip rotterdam too(which is very unlikely)......this is the tougher part of the year for rafa.....tons of points to defend during the clay season...better to rest and be prepared for barcelona, monte carlo, rome and madrid...!
