  • Philippoussis toying with the idea of a last-gasp ATP return

    12/4/09 8:06 AM | Johan Lindahl
Philippoussis toying with the idea of a last-gasp ATP return Chronic knee injury victim Mark Philippoussis has hinted that he is keen to take yet another stab at an ATP comeback in the wake of his sixth surgery.

The 33-year-old who last played on the circuit in late 2006, is testing the waters with his form at the weekend seniors event in London.

The Australian thinks that he might be able to give his career a final go after dropping up to six kilograms down to 93 kg in order to take away some of the strain on his dodgy joints.

"I can't say what's realistic and what's not, but I can only say that in my heart I would love to give it one more go," he told Australian media. "Whether that's possible, time will tell."

His last operation was five months ago, capping a run of bad luck for the former Wimbledon and US Open finalist who had to sell his Melbourne house after falling behind on a mortgage, a deal in which he said he was mislead by the lender.

Philippoussis is trying not to regret the lost year of a career which many believe was wasted by his lack of a solid work ethic.

"I've got a lot of work to do, but the most important thing is I'm enjoying my training, I'm enjoying my hitting and that's everything.

"A year ago I didn't think about tennis, I didn't want to play tennis, it was done and now that feeling isn't there any more."
