Rafael Nadal has shoved aside his poor memories of a winless mark at the ATP World Tour Finals, plowing ahead into next week's Davis Cup final at home against the Czech Republic.
The world No. 2 has bigger things on his mind, hoping to help his nation repeat as Davis Cup champions.
Nadal left for Barcelona without having won a set in three defeats. But he's not hanging his head. "It's not very disappointing, no. It would be disappointing if you arrive here with the feeling that you have a big chance to win."
"But I didn't arrive here with that feeling. I know before the tournament that going to be really tough, difficult. But I tried. Every day I tried my best."
The four-time French Open winner, who lifted his last title in the spring, said he will learn from his poor week indoors.
"If you lose, you have to learn with the victories and the losses - better with the victories.
"This tournament give me different feelings and the opportunity to see what I have to do to play better and to start the next year better.
"I'm not gonna say I'm not gonna start very well next year. But I see what I have to do if I want to be more competitive in these kind of surfaces with players next year."

Rafa should do just fine on clay! In fact, he was playing the clay-like tennis in London and it was not right. He made some big improvements playing at hard-courts at the beginning of the year, but then got injured and seemed to have lost some of the tricks he and Tony developed earlier in the year...but top-spin and base-line game should be sufficient for clay surface...however, I am more worried about the back injury he has experienced in the match w/ Djokovic. I hope it turns out well.

I'm a Rafa fan but it's painful to watch him play lately as I feel the top players have now figured out his game. His achilles heel is also his strength, and that is his defensive baseline game. On clay, he's got all the time in the world to cover his angles; that is why he is handicapped on hardcourts and grass. One cannot just make a living on clay courts and he must change his style asap. He needs to complement his consistency with a more lethal serve and flatter, deeper shots, as opposed to shallow moon balls. Have you seen how Delp and Cilic kills those?

hope he plays some gud tennis on clay! 5 set clay court matches would give him a fair understanding on where his game stands as of now. Given that he said he is tired, it does not sound too promising to me...
