Last year's French Open title has sparked a re-write of Roger Federer's upcoming clay season, with the world No. 1 adding the spring Estoril event to his 2010 schedule.
The Swiss played the small tournament once in 2008, winning the title against Nikolay Davydenko. He skipped it this year but will be back to set up on clay for his Roland Garros title defense.
Federer will tentatively play 19 events next season.
According to his schedule published on his website, he will skip the Tokyo tournament in October and will play in the Gulf for his Australian Open preparation, competing in Doha in the first week of the year after a New Year's Eve exhibition in Abu Dhabi.
His participation in his traditional Aussie tune-up at Kooyong remains an open question, with organizers holding a pot in the field for the favorite, should he choose to compete in the week before the January 18 start of the Open.
Federer is also concentrating on Davis Cup in hope of finally lifting Switzerland to a title in the worldwide team competition.
