  • Djokovic rolls over Beck at Davidoff Indoors

    11/3/09 10:15 PM | Ricky Dimon
Djokovic rolls over Beck at Davidoff Indoors Novak Djokovic gets off to a winning start in Basel on Tuesday night, taking out Andreas Beck in straight sets. Next up for Djokovic is Jan Hernych.

Novak Djokovic defeated Andreas Beck 6-3, 7-5 in the first round of the Davidoff Swiss Indoors on Tuesday night, needing one hour and 26 minutes to set up a meeting with Jan Hernych.

Although the match ended up being somewhat competitive, Djokovic took control right from the start. The third-ranked Serb broke serve immediately for a 2-0 lead in the first set and extended it to 3-0 with a routine hold. He gave a break back, but added another before serving out the set to love at 5-3.

Beck had chances to take the second set and force a decisive third frame of play. Both players took care of their service games en route to a 4-3 advantage for Beck, at which point the 33rd-ranked German earned two break points to go up 5-3. Djokovic, however, thwarted both opportunities and ended up holding for 4-4. Basel's No. 2 seed then secured a crucial service break at 5-5 and finished off the proceedings one game later.

It was an impressive performance from Djokovic, who finished with 10 aces and two double-faults. Beck raised his level considerably in set two, but he was doomed by winning a mere 27 percent of the points in which he had to toss in a second serve.

Djokovic is 2-1 lifetime against Hernych, who opened in Basel on Tuesday by defeating qualifier Peter Luczak in straight sets. Since losing to Hernych on grass in 2006, Djokovic has scored two hard-court victories over the Czech already this season.

Nadal within 1000 points. After Basel even closer, since he's not playing anywhere at the moment. Murray more than 1200 away... One blunder from Fed who defends 2 titles and two finals next year and...
In the end of the 2010 Novak Djokovic number 1 in the world!
In Novak we trust!
Alleeez allez allez alleeeez, No2-leee, No1-leeee....

Duronole , 11/4/09 12:33 AM

whoa Duro! this is exactly the kind of thinking that got him in 07-08 :). remember he has TMC points to defend. i just want him to win paris. that would mean less pressure at the TMC...

stu , 11/4/09 3:22 AM

Hey Stuart! "This is exactly the kind of thinking that got him in 07-08 :)." Got him, you mean it prevented him to become No1-le? Well, there's difference now. First of all, he's older now, will be 23 in the end of the next year (his prime's starting), more experienced, physically stronger, some more competent and intelligent people in his team...
About next events, he'll earn some points in Basel, right? At least 300 (maybe 180, but maybe 500...) Then, he'll have few to defend in Paris. Add some for Paris too (380, or 600 or 1000!). If he sells his skin good in London(I'm not doubting it), he won't lose too much there. All in all, that should be a good base for the next season, where slams are his chance. If he grabs one (which I very much expect him to do) then my prediction sounds pretty realistic, don't you think?
The thing is: "In Nole we trust!" No proof there, right?
Anyway, all of that gives me the reason to cheer out-loud:
Alleeeeez allez allez alleeeeez, No2-leeee, No1-leeee!!!

Duronole , 11/4/09 9:48 AM

Go, Nole,go! :) I'll be sitting and waiting (and cheering) for good things to happen in 2010...but let's wait just few more weeks and then start calculating... :) I just don't want to jinx him. :)

OllyK , 11/4/09 10:11 AM

Duronole, he, he, he, even though I don't participate over here as I used to do, you made me laughing in a positive way, I'd love things goes in that direction, you have great positive attitude, you really love our boy, and finally I love your sense of humor, you're a quite good guy, by the way, Novak looks great, he's in shape, good condition, well rested, so we'll see what is going to be, I don't like predictions, cause tennis is such a sport, you can't predict anything, however, Novak has a great season, in 2010 I expect he'll explode and show first of all to himself what a player he is, for us who support and love him very much, it'll be huge satisfaction, regards for you duronole and the rest of Nole fans...

gordana , 11/4/09 10:14 AM

Nice analysis, Duronole. Yeap, Roger's got his work cut out for him next year. Much as I am a Fed fan and would love to see him still stay at number 1, I am not gonna count out Rafa and Nole who's going to give him a tough run coming 2010!

Nole has a tippy 2009 so far, but I truly believe he's going to come back stronger next season...and hey, I still think he has great potential to defend the year end championships! :)

On an off note, I really hope for good scheduling at AO2010 next year...I have Rod Laver Centre Court tickets for Round 1 and Round 2 and QF...pleaseeee let Tennis Gods be kind to me and schedule Nole for Centre Court at SOME point!! (not too worried about Fed and Rafa, know I'm gonna get to see them for sure)

jyannis , 11/4/09 11:11 AM

Gordana, no predictions. Destiny! Thanks for compliments.
OllyK, no jinx. Love and support rather.
jyannis, I can't possibly tell you what would I give for those tickets... Enjoy your blessing.
About Nole and Center Court, wait for him in the semis, high noon! As hotter as better (for the organizers).
But we have that Hirchtz, Firtzth guy and Todd with us. No sun can hurt him this time!
In Novak we trust! Ajde Nole if there's a God! Blasphemy, but with love, so let me be forgiven this time. Djo-ko-vic No1-vak, clap-clap-clap-clap-clap!!!

Duronole , 11/4/09 12:07 PM

Duro, loving&supporting Nole is not a question... :) And never will be. :)

Ajde, Noleeee! <3

OllyK , 11/4/09 4:35 PM

Didn't doubt, Olja, didn't doubt! In Novak we trust! Djokerists from every country, unite! Ajde Nole, ole ole ole!

Duronole , 11/4/09 7:41 PM

BTW, a lot of people assume my name is Stuart, but I'm a girl :). stu is just a pg-13 version of stfu.

stu , 11/5/09 12:41 AM

And Duro, I agree with your "more experienced, physically stronger, some more competent and intelligent people in his team..." assessment - your enthusiasm and positivity is infectious!

stu , 11/5/09 12:42 AM

stu, ha ha ha! I can't believe it you're a girl! My deepest, deepest apologies! So you're a shut the up! Great! What's pg-13?
About infectious enthusiasm and positivity, I'm the N1H1 loving and supporting virus in the all around the world Nole's fans base community!
In Novak we trust! Oleeee, ole, ole, oleeeee, No-leeeee, No-leeeee....

Duronole , 11/5/09 10:07 AM

Oh, Duro (and posmatrac), you are stuck in here with us girls, Nole's fans! Poor you! :)) Btw, I think that pg-13 is "parental guide under 13" :)

Ajdeeee, Nole!!!! :)

OllyK , 11/5/09 10:38 AM

* parental guidANCE under 13.. :)

OllyK , 11/5/09 10:51 AM

So, stu is Elisabeth, OllyK is Olivera, posmatrac is observer and Duro is H1N1 plus Gordana the biggest fan of them all! Small but powerful army! Fear us infidels (in Novak)! Our time is coming! Alleeeez allez allez alleeeeez, No1-leeee, No1-leeee....

Duronole , 11/5/09 10:56 AM

You can add me to the Nole bandwagon as well...sort of. He isn't my ultimate favourite but DEFINITELY one of my favourites and I find myself rooting for him a lot as of late because I really want Nole to get Slam no.2! :D He's really wonderful to watch on court as well.

Actually I have decided that I WILL see Nole at AO next year no matter what, so I'm just gonna wing it and hope for available tickets AFTER scheduling.

jyannis , 11/5/09 12:50 PM

Duronole, he, he, he, what to say, as I already mentioned, you're master peace, what a personality you have, I really like you very much, from time to time, you remind me on myself, what a sharp tongue you have, you seems to be very intelligent guy, unfortunately I've lost motivation to express my endless love for Novak in this environment, there are many reasons for it, but when ever I come here, I'm looking forward to find your posts, you're my inner voice, and you're saying exactly what I said soooooooooooo many times before, keep going and makes me proud of fact, Novak fans are so devoted, intelligent and charismatic, regards for you Duronole...

gordana , 11/5/09 1:26 PM

though I wont post that regularly I follow each and every single match that djokovic plays and any posts in this.........so I hope I can join the list of ardent djoker fans......another male djoker fan to join bandwagon............

sathisht79 , 11/5/09 2:23 PM

jyannis, welcome aboard! Believe me, this is gonna be a fiesta bandwagon, lot to celebrate and cheer for in the years to come! And don't worry about that slam number 2. Next year, jyannis, next year! Respect for everyone, hate for no one, but love - only for the one!
Djo-ko-vic No1-vak, clap-clap clap clap-clap!

Duronole , 11/5/09 2:27 PM

Greetings from USA - South FLorida! I admire all of you for your love and comittment as Nole fans. My entire family is a Nole fan, inlcuding my 6 year old. Nole has a large fan base in South Florida as well as all over the world. I don't post regularly, but I regularly read all your posts and enjoy your optimism. Somehow I don't want to jinx what's in store for him this month and in the years to come, and that is why I tend not predict and talk about. We look forward to his success and hope that he will not disapoint us, but make us all proud, because he's worked hard on his game and fitness along with his off court manners and image. He deserves, nothing but the best and I look forward to all his successes. Nole has become not only a Serbian icon, he's also slowly becoming a world icon. His fan base is getting larger by the minute, because of his personality and of course his results. As long as he continues to post great results, on court, results will follow and his popularity will rise.......... I look forward to all of your posts and will continue to admire your optimism. Here is to great tennis and a wonderful end of the 2009 season..... As you will all say: "In Nole we trust".

arailic , 11/5/09 2:45 PM

Gordana, what to say... As long as we don't hate other players and only love our favorite there should be no problem. Love is in the air! That's all. Thanks.

Duronole , 11/5/09 2:47 PM

sathisht79, every guy is more than welcome! These girls are so hot and devoted that I felt dizzy when alone with them here! Help me out! No Nole around, he's somewhere in Switzerland!

Duronole , 11/5/09 2:54 PM

arailic, I'm impressed with your kind words and thankful for your support for Novak! Keep going, mate! We, his fans, have the best "material" to count on for the years to come. You all know his qualities, so there's no need for me to repeat it, but only to express our satisfaction and joy about our star's thrilling years we're gonna witness. Tighten up your seat belts! We're taking off! Alleeeez allez allez alleeez, No1-leeee, No1-leeee...

Duronole , 11/5/09 3:08 PM

Duronole and co, I don't know Nole as well as all of you do, but what's his favourite surface? He seems to play really well across all surfaces - having reached the semis of every slam (and I think the only other active players to have achieved that is Roger and Rafa?) - but what's his preference?

Believe me when I say I am NOT trying to jinx anything (just having great belief in Nole) but what's your take on his Slam no.2 as in which Slam will it be?

Cos I have a secret wish to see Nole win Wimbledon. :D

jyannis , 11/5/09 3:35 PM

Oh, what a wonderful thing too see..sooo many ppl on Nole's side!! Welcome everybody! Thanks for your support! I want to add mriiidula as well..although she is not here at the moment!! Ajde, Nolee! <3

jyannis, Nole's favourite surface is hard court..that's what he says. But this year, he showed us masterpiece on clay (minus RG)...sooo..I don't know! :)
I think he'll win AO again...in 2010. :)

Soo..in Nole we trust!! ;)

OllyK , 11/5/09 4:07 PM
