Mikhail Youzhny crushes Mikhail Kukushkin in straight sets on Saturday evening to reach the Moscow title match. Next up for Youzhny is Janko Tipsarevic.
With just one match to go, Mikhail Youzhny still has not lost a single set in Moscow.
Youzhny kept up his devastating form with a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Mikhail Kukushkin on Saturday evening in the Kremlin Cup semifinals. The No. 3 seed needed just one hour and eight minutes to set up a showdown with Janko Tipsarevic.
Kukushkin already had an amazing week well before this semifinal clash, as the 157th-ranked Kazakh went through qualifying last weekend just to get into the main draw before winning an additional three matches. It was clear right from the start, however, that the underdog would be no threat to Youzhny. Kukushkin held serve only once in four tries during the first set, as Youzhny could do no wrong from the baseline.
Youzhny continued to play near-flawless tennis throughout the second frame of play, and his serve came around as well. The world No. 30 fired four aces in his last three service games and won 90 percent of his first-serve points during that span. Youzhny added three more service breaks, the last of which finished off Kukushkin in style.
"I am glad I have reached the final in Moscow, my home tournament, but I don't want to think about it too much as there is one more match to go," said the victor. Youzhny wrapped up the proceedings with six aces and no double-faults while winning an impressive 15 of 19 second-serve return points.
