Janko Tipsarevic takes out Robby Ginepri in straight sets to reach the Moscow semifinals on Friday afternoon. Tipsarevic will face either Evgeny Korolev or Ilya Marchenko for a spot in the title match.
Janko Tipsarevic kept up his fine form on Friday, rolling over Robby Ginepri 6-3, 6-3 in the quarterfinals of the Kremlin Cup. Tipsarevic needed just one hour and 11 minutes to set up a semifinal clash with either Evgeny Korolev or Ilya Marchenko.
Right from the start, Tipsarevic simply could do no wrong. Despite serving at 56 percent while Ginepri put in 83 percent of his first deliveries, Tipsarevic dominated the opening set from start to finish. The sixth-seeded Serb fired four aces and won 12 of 14 first-serve points, facing--and saving--only one break point. One break of his own would have been enough, but Tipsarevic added another just for good measure as Ginepri served to stay in the set at 3-5.
The 92nd-ranked American all but disappeared thereafter, especially on serve. He served at a mere 39 percent throughout the second frame of play, and one more break was all Tipsarevic needed for easy passage into the semifinals. The world No. 46 never faced any trouble in his last five service games, winning all 14 of his first-serve points during that span. A final routine hold for Tipsarevic at 5-3 finished off Ginepri in style.
Tipsarevic wrapped up the proceedings with 10 aces and two double-faults. He won an amazing 93 percent of his first-serve points en route to reaching his first ATP semifinal since qualifying for the same stage of this Moscow event two years ago. Tipsarevic, who has not dropped a set in three victories this week, scored his first career win over Ginepri in three tries.
