Boris Becker has revealed that the 1999 London restaurant tryst with a Russian model which produced a daughter nine months later took place on the stairs and not in a broom closet as legend might have it.
The 41-year-old three-time Wimbledon winner reportedly set the record straight in an interview for a program to air in Britain over the weekend.
Becker said that while his quick-hit rendezvous with Angela Ermakova shortly after announcing his retirement from tennis might have been poor judgment - given that he was married at the time with two children - it did result in a "beautiful daughter."
"I don‘t know if a bathroom is a better place but it actually happened on the stairs between the bathrooms so there was no broom cupboard," Becker reportedly said.
"I felt very guilty, ashamed. It was my last day of tennis, now I‘ve cheated on my wife."
Becker said he "lost my mind" at the time. "I live and learn. It cost my marriage, it cost for the next couple of years my private life, but having Anna (daughter) is not a mistake any more."
