    Shanghai - Acasuso forced to retire, Sela upset Andreas Beck and hometown wildcard Shao-Xuan Zeng are through to the second round of the Shanghai ATP Masters 1000. The German advanced following Acasuso’s retirement due to a knee injury.

    Andreas Beck def. Jose Acasuso 7-6, 1-0 (retired)

    Andreas Beck reached the second round in Shanghai, after opponent Jose Acasuso, who had sustained a knee issue at the US Open, retired one game into the second set.

    The German will take on either 13th seed Radek Stepanek or Juan Carlos Ferrero in the second round.

    (WC) Shao-Xuan Zeng def. Dudi Sela 2-6, 6-1, 6-4

    Wildcard Shao-Xuan Zeng rallied from 2-6 down in his first-round clash with Dudi Sela on Sunday. The 28-year-old captured his first Tour-level win this season, knocking out the Israeli in one hour and 51 minutes, 2-6, 6-1, 6-4. Zeng ended the day with 5 aces and six of 16 break point opportunities converted.

    The Chinese wildcard meets Japan Open title-winner and fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in round two.
