Flamboyant French talent Gael Monfils will join Andy Roddick in headlining the start of the 2010 ATP season as the Brisbane International holds its second edition starting January 4.
Monfils, currently on the ATP Asian swing after winning the Metz title last month, will be making his debut in the Queensland city, as will be American Roddick.
"I've heard it has a pretty good stadium, one I'd to play on," said the 23-year-old, who is coached by Lleyton Hewitt's former mentor Roger Rasheed.
Monfils, who could have been a basketball player had he not been seduced by tennis, is known for his scrambling, athletic game. "My parents (his father was a former footballer) always taught me to be myself on the court, to enjoy.
"If I can give a great show to the crowd I will for sure. I think I will also let my emotions come out."
No. 13 Monfils will surely be asked to try his hand at the local football style, Aussie Rules, during is stay,if only for a photo op if nothing else.
He seems to be game: "I think I can be pretty good because I am fast and I don’t want anyone to hit me so I can snake anywhere. Actually it's a cool game."
Roddick will be ready to forget about his 2009, where he lost a third Wimbledon final to Roger Federer, was beaten for the Washington title by Juan Martin Del Potro, exited the US Open in the third round to young American John Isner, and failed in Beijing as the defending champion with a first-round exit.
