Viktor Troicki is the first of the top four seeds in Bangkok to reach the quarterfinals. Troicki defeats Thomaz Bellucci on Wednesday and awaits either John Isner or Mischa Zverev.
Following a first-round bye, Viktor Troicki beat Thomaz Bellucci 6-3, 7-6(4) on Wednesday night in Bangkok. Troicki needed one hour and 27 minutes to set up a quarterfinal clash with Mischa Zverev or No. 8 seed John Isner.
The 32nd-ranked Serb is far more comfortable than Bellucci on indoor hard courts, and he played like it throughout the first set. Troicki lost only seven points in his first five service games, although he did have to saved one break point. He also jumped on his opponent's second serves, winning seven of those 10 points, and one break was enough for Troicki to take the opening frame of play.
Troicki continued to roll through his service games in set two, winning 23 of 25 first-serve points without facing a single break point. He almost had a chance to serve out the match as Bellucci served at 4-4, 15-40, but the 61st-ranked Brazilian managed to hold and eventually forced a tiebreaker. Troicki won a furious rally to seize an immediate mini-break for 1-0, but he gave it back at 3-2 with a forehand error. A backhand mistake by Bellucci at 4-4 put the match on Troicki's racket, and Bangkok's No. 2 seed took care of his next two service points, clinching the match with a backhand winner.
Troicki finished with three aces and no double-faults, and he won 36 of 42 (86 percent) first-serve points. Bellucci also did a good job handling his own first-serve points, but the underdog was doomed by winning a mere nine of 22 points (41 percent) when he had to toss in a second delivery.
