    9/30/09 8:47 PM | Ricky Dimon
Melzer, Zverev move on at Thailand Open Jurgen Melzer reaches the Bangkok quarterfinals with a straight-set win over Marsel Ilhan on Wednesday. Mischa Zverev, meanwhile, advances to round to by overcoming Leonardo Mayer.

    (6) Jurgen Melzer d. (Q) Marsel Ilhan 6-4, 6-2

Melzer cruised past Ilhan in just one hour and six minutes to book a spot in the quarterfinals of the PTT Thailand Open on Wednesday afternoon. Ilhan enjoyed a stellar week, qualifying for the main draw before upsetting Benjamin Becker, but the 22-year-old Turk was no match for Melzer. Bangkok's No. 6 seed fired nine aces in nine service games and was never broken, saving all four of the break points he faced. Melzer dropped a mere two points on serve throughout the entire second set. Next up for the veteran Austrian is either Andreas Beck or lucky loser Donald Young.

    Mischa Zverev d. Leonardo Mayer 5-7, 6-3, 6-3

Zverev got revenge for a Masters Series Montreal loss this summer by knocking out Mayer in two hours and three minutes. It was Mayer, however, who got off to a good start as the the 62nd-ranked Argentine secured the first break of the match with his opponent serving to stay in the first set at 5-6. From then on, however, Zverev had control. The word No. 50 used two breaks to ease through the second, and one break was enough for him to take the third and final set. Zverev never dropped serve over the last two sets, facing no break points in the second while saving two in the third. No. 8 seed John Isner awaits Zverev in round two.

    Kevin Kim d. Rainer Schuettler 6-4, 6-4

Kim got the best of Schuettler in one hour and 11 minutes on Wednesday afternoon to earn his spot in a second-round matchup with No. 2 seed Gilles Simon. The American got broken once in the first set, but he had no trouble with Schuettler's serve and took the opening frame of play courtesy of two breaks. Kim took care of his own serve the rest of the way, so one break in the second was enough for him to finish off the German in straight sets.
