Nikolay Davydenko moved safely through to the quarterfinals of the Malaysian Open after defeating wildcard Taylor Dent in straight sets. Richard Gasquet advanced to the second round, dismissing Victor Crivoi.

Top seed Nikolay Davydenko made a strong start to his Malaysian Open campaign, knocking out American wildcard Taylor Dent 6-3, 7-6 in one hour and 55 minutes. The Russian saved 12 of 13 break points on the day to book a place in the quarterfinals. The American turned in a poor performance on serve, gifting four double faults while making just 53% of his first serves. With the second-round victory, Davydenko improves his season mark to 39-12.
Davydenko will face fifth seed Gael Monfils for a place among the final four. The Frenchman outlasted Denis Istomin 7-6, 7-6 on Wednesday.
Richard Gasquet def. Victor Crivoi 6-1, 6-2
Richard Gasquet needed just 68 minutes to post an impressive 6-1, 6-2 opening-round win over Victor Crivoi Wednesday afternoon. The unseeded Frenchman struck 12 aces during the match to reach the second round. The 23-year-old, currently ranked 47th, reached the semifinals in Metz last week before falling to compatriot and title-winner Gael Monfils.
Gasquet moves through to round two to meet wildcard Joachim Johansson. The Swede downed eighth seed Lleyton Hewitt in the first round, 7-6, 6-3.
