Richard Gasquet added another win to his post-suspension tally. The Frenchman defeated Belgium’s Christophe Rochus in 3 tough sets.
France’s one-time top player took another step towards finding his game again. The Frenchman fired an impressive 21 aces past Rochus in the three-set victory. The first set was closely contested. Gasquet was on top form with his serve; Rochus did not have any chances at a service break. The Frenchman finally converted a break point at the tail end of the set to take the lead.
Gasquet’s first serve percentage dropped in the middle set. Rochus was able to take advantage of the drop in level to take two service breaks. The Frenchman secured a break of serve as well, but could not get back on serve.
The third set was impressive from Gasquet – and dismal from Rochus. The Belgian surrendered 3 service breaks on his way to a 6-2 defeat.
Gasquet will play Philipp Petzschner in the quarterfinals.
