The cards could be falling into place for Greg Rusedski to eventually take over from John Lloyd as Davis Captain as Britain struggles against the odds to field a winning team.
Rusedski, who retired in September, 2006 with a concluding Davis Cup singles win, has been doing television commentary and working with the British federation as junior Davis Cup captain.
Speculation is growing in London that Lloyd, whose sides have not won a tie for two years and who team has dropped into the sub-European zone for next season, could soon be on the way out.
Rusedski spared no criticism of the team's showing in the weekend 3-2 loss to Poland, where Andy Murray played three rubbers with a damaged wrist.
During his commentary, Canadian-born Rusedski suggested that teenaged neophyte Dan Evans was not taking heeds of Lloyd's advise on the sidelines.
The outspoken Rusedski, 36, who never missed a chance to play for his adopted country, has never minced words and looks to be quietly angling for a shot at the Davis post should it become available.
