Sunday's Davis Cup singles rubbers between Spain and Israel are dead after the host Spaniards win the doubles rubber on Saturday. Tommy Robredo and Feliciano Lopez put Spain in the 2009 Davis Cup final.
Israel's impressive Davis Cup run came to end on Sunday afternoon in Murcia, Spain, where the host Spaniards finished off the tie 3-0 by winning the doubles rubber. Feliciano Lopez and Tommy Robredo got the best of Jonathan Erlich and Andy Ram 7-6(6), 6-7(7), 6-4, 6-2 in three hours and 47 minutes to put Spain in the Davis Cup final against the Czech Republic.
Spain had a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the doubles match thanks to David Ferrer and Juan Carlos Ferrero, who won their singles rubbers in straight sets on Friday. Ferrer dispatched Harel Levy and Ferrero rolled over world No. 29 Dudi Sela.
Sunday's singles rubbers will be "dead" since Spain has already clinched the tie. Ferrer is scheduled to play Sela and Ferrero had been set to face Levy, but the lineup could be changed since now that the rubbers are not "live."
Spain is back in the Davis Cup final for the second straight year. Last November, the Spaniards went into Argentina and came away with the title when Fernando Verdasco outlasted Jose Acasuso in five sets. This time, against the Czechs, Spain has home-court advantage. That means the Spaniards will have played all four of their Davis Cup ties on home soil in 2009.
The Czech Republic earned a trip to Spain by going on the road and sweeping Croatia 3-0. Radek Stepanek and Tomas Berdych won five-setters on Friday, then teamed up to clinch the tie on Saturday with the doubles point.

I had called him David Ferrero too many times before.
But I'm surprised I didn't call the other one Juan Carlos Ferrer.

homos is right. When two countries play each other, whoever hosted the last tie between those two countries is the visitor the next time.
so Spain just got lucky all four ties this year

as i won't be coming into town tomorrow, duey to no finance (laughs), is the reason as i do have to grab a 'quickie' if it's ok.
i am glad that it's overall over for most teams so they can relax and look into the next ones next year. i am proud of 'issrael' for reaching the semis for i was certain 'argentinda' was going into it....he..ha!.. if that is the case with the brave performances from the none-so-victtorious 'espana/spain' warriors, then we might just have an inter-ruption of a final. as i do know they were the winners of such a comp last year. keep them rolling around boys. what it's there for.....

Interesting that Spain has had all their ties on homecourt advantage this year, isn't that unusual? Are there any rules as to who the homecourt advantage goes to?
Btw. props for mastering the Ferrer/Ferrero bit :P
