Lleyton Hewitt will carry on without veteran mentor Tony Roche after splitting recently with the one-time Australian Davis Cup captain.
Due to Roche's limited availability to travel with the former No. 1, Hewitt has been working with former journeyman player Nathan Healey.
Under the guidance of his fellow Aussie, Hewitt, who lost in the US Open third round to Roger Federer, expects to try and lift his 26th ranking as he plays a full autumn schedule on the ATP starting with the new Kuala Lumpur event the week after next.
Hewitt called his split with Roche - ex part-time coach of Federer - amicable. Roche has taken up a new position with the Mouratoglou Academy near Paris.
Hewitt and Roche only really met up in Sydney for training sessions and often conferred by telephone while Hewitt was on the road.
Hewitt, with a home in the Bahamas, has not been in Australia since January. "Week in, week out, I just feel like it's hard just coming to the Grand Slams and working with someone different all the time",
said Hewitt. "Rochey and I get along super".
"I've got so much respect him and it's hard. But I haven't been back to Australia all year either and I guess we haven't been able to do the weeks that we sort of have been able to do in the past".
Healey, 29, has not officially retired, and currently ranked outside the Top 500 and plays the occasional Challenger event.
