Roger Federer will take a pause after losing the US Open final to Juan Del Potro but believes that traveling with his new family will become a permanent part of his tennis routine.
"I have sort of a plan in place, obviously," said the Swiss world No. 1 as he ended a five-week plus road trip with wife Mirka Vanrinec and the couple's two-month-old twins.
"I only look more or less to Australia, and after that, I don't know."
January's Australian Open remains the next Grand Slam target for the Swiss as he attempts to add to his record haul of 15 Grand Slam trophies. Federer is also entered in the Tokyo event in early October, followed by the Shanghai Masters.
His New York loss to Del Potro prevented a modern record of six titles at the same event for any one player.
Federer, whose new family travels by private jet with a nanny, said that moving en masse has not been a problem.
"Traveling was not the most difficult part here. It was just nice that they were with me every day. That's what we're gonna try to do in the future. Now we'll see what's gonna happen the next few weeks and months. Right now I'm just tired. I want to get a rest."

Ahem, Johan - a record for any one male player, I think you mean. Care to have a chat with Martina "Wimbledon 1982-3-4-5-6-7" Navratilova?

Federer: "I only look more or less to Australia, and after that, I don't know."
Seems like retirement is in the air. Winning is not coming so easily now. Connors left it too late to retire, until he started being beaten by all sorts of lower ranked players, which for a while took away from his many achievements.
carrie , 9/15/09 5:46 PM
Fed reached the finals of all 4 slams , won 2 of them and won 2 masters . Yes I gess wining is not cming so easily :P
Max , 9/15/09 6:10 PM
haha, carrie, Rafa needs to retire more than Fed if you look at the amount of injury he's had.
Fed easily won Cincy and also beat all the players including some young players except in the final of USO.
ANy other player including Nadal would one Fed's 2009. LOL
torres9 , 9/15/09 6:22 PM
wishful thinking on your part carrie i think. serious, very serious case of "whine flu". all of a sudden, no positive things to say about roger? very sad.
yes max. an amazing accomplishment by federer.
I guess tho' that looking up the new year (up to the AO) is normal - after that - new schedules are looked at and events are decided upon in terms of whether players will enter. i guess the same for rafa as he intends to "cut back" on his scheduling. may be HE is thinking of retiring? we all know that federer has stated very clearly, he gonna want to take part in London 2012 olympics, and I, for one believe him. go:roger:go! you will ALWAYS be the no. 1 player.

CNN) -- Roger Federer will be able to bounce back again following his shock U.S. Open final defeat, tennis legend Boris Becker has told CNN.
The five-time winner went into Monday night's final at the top of his game, having re-established himself as the top player in the world this year after losing his No. 1 crown to Rafael Nadal and suffering from illness.
The Swiss star was widely expected to defeat Juan Martin Del Potro, the 20-year-old sixth seed from Argentina who reached his first Grand Slam final after crushing an injury-hampered Nadal in the last four.
"It was a very big upset in world tennis," said Becker, who won the U.S. Open in 1989 as one of his six Grand Slam titles.
See Becker's interview with CNN.
"Everybody had their money on Federer obviously, and even last night how the match went after the third set when Federer, two sets to one up, you expected the 15-time Grand Slam champion to go through.
"But obviously Del Potro had a different plan and he came back in a fantastic tiebreak in the fourth set and Federer actually looked a bit tired in the last stages of the fifth set."
Federer completed his set of Grand Slam titles in June after finally winning the French Open on clay -- his least favorite surface -- and regained his Wimbledon crown in an epic final with Andy Roddick after Nadal missed the grass tournament due to his knee problems.
The 28-year-old went into the New York hardcourt event on Cloud Nine after becoming a father to twin baby girls, having married longtime partner Mirka Vavrinec in April, but saw Del Potro emerge as a real threat to his dominance as Nadal and Andy Murray fell away.
"He's in a difficult phase in a high-comfort level because there is nothing else to prove anymore, to himself or the fans," Becker said.
"So I think he is going to go back and enjoy his new babies and new wife by then he is going to regroup and restructure for next year's Grand Slams."
Federer has won the Laureus World Sportsman Of The Year title for the last four years, but Becker believes he may miss out in 2009 to Jamaican sprinting star Usain Bolt -- who followed up his triple golds from the 2008 Beijing Olympics with more records in winning three titles at the World Athletics Championships.
"Well yesterday evening at two sets to one for Federer it would have been a sure bet," Becker said. "But him not winning now puts everything in a new race and Usain Bolt winning other gold medals at the world championships obviously is a strong frontrunner."

MY GOD!!! The sleeper awakens! How and where have you been Malty! Nice to "see" you are ALIVE, and still have some thoughts to share with us here! Welcome BACK! MWAH!! From your lonely "loving" sky... :) Welcome back GIRL!!! The FED is still as FANTASTIC as ever! Moving on from the US OPEN without the WIN, but full of happiness for the way things are in his life in general. Good to hear. A happy and healthy FED will be ready for the next round of FUN when he decides...
sky , 9/15/09 11:56 PM
I just want Roger to think even more about his decisions to travel with the kids, especially on the planes. I experienced a turbulence on one of the big aeroplanes about 1996 travelling to and fro, and it was ' not ' funny,..
tauojtcer , 9/16/09 5:51 AM
I wish FEDEX will stay longer till he will be beaten by all sorts of lowest ranked players, but the question is how many Unpires will Fedex curse if his mnumber of losses exceeded 10 per year & what sorts of words will the Umpire hear: F-S...?
What else will Fedex will bring from his very sweet tongue & great sporstman-ship poor quality dictionary?
I suggest Umpires should wear protection covers otherwise they will be slapped on their faces & more to come
smartcuty , 9/16/09 10:04 AM

'What else will Fedex will bring from his very sweet tongue & great sporstman-ship poor quality dictionary?

you hardly have a "s-w-e-e-t-t-o-n-g-u-e"...and i have been out to get some protection covers for my ears.............in fact, in 5 posts..........you have used 'X' no. of expletives compared to the 11 years that federer has been on the tour - he is allowed a "l-a-p-s-e".............and we are talking about O-N-E- L-A-P-S-E.....so enough already. you call yourself a sportsman? Pah! having a laugh.Sssssssshh!
federer fans - dont engage.its bad, negative energy.
SKY< wrote you a long post - on another thread - still waiting for a response! (missed you............love you!!!!).
malteser , 9/16/09 5:23 PM
Mwah Malty... Sorry I've taking so long to reply. I have been editing some video (a very time consuming undertaking, but I love the results) Please feel free to send pictures at spiritinthesky@hotmail.com You are always welcome... So nice to have you back! Federer is in cloud nine (the "sky") LOL Must be the TWINS :) ! He is healthy too! :) Being one of his fans is "GREAT" stuff... tennislover put it well when he said: "Let's see what the big guy does in/for his next move..." (or something similar) LOL I LOVE IT!!! :) C'MON!
sky , 9/16/09 9:16 PM
Malteser,
First compare Fedex morals to Nadal & Djokovic & you will see the difference
But blind hearts are blind minded & blind sight too
HOPELESS CASE!!!
LOL
smartcuty , 9/17/09 1:06 AM
If Fed has blind dictionary, then Rafa has what? Kindergarten dictionary?
Fed is Swiss. Rafa is Spanish. They dont need to necessarily be able to express accurately in English.
Even Delpo said, 'My dream became through' LOL...
First of all, what do u mean by morality? These guy play tennis. Is it 'immoral' to debate a call? Football players do it all the time.
And If you think Rafa never complain then you clearly have shallow tennis knowledge. The guy complain about the calendar all the time when everyone has the same calendar.
torres9 , 9/17/09 5:46 AM
I don't know why the people who think because they work for the site gives them the right to delete my comments, (especially the very latest ones - or the good ones), whenever they feel like. I have been dealt with before and to keep doing so when there's not a thing wrong with them is 'fascinating'.....Lucky you buddy!!
tauojtcer , 9/17/09 5:49 AM
torres9 - everyone on tour complains about the schedule
by contrast, very few complain about the challenge system
RickyDimon , 9/17/09 5:59 AM
By contrast, Ricky very few complain about the schedule like Rafa do.
torres9 , 9/17/09 6:07 AM
Torres - sorry, but you are wrong on this one.
I have been AT live press conferences and seen the schedule complaining with my own eyes.
RickyDimon , 9/17/09 7:12 AM
Ricky you can't explain things to people that don't have an open mind and that are delusional.
Some only see what they want to see and think that everyone else is so perfect and others are always wrong....sad
alik , 9/17/09 12:57 PM
^^ that's why i admire Rafa because he is not afraid to speak up about issues that are not fair to the players...Issues that have been going on for years..but no one never had the nerve to say anything
well...i guess others were scared or i guess as long as everything is going your way why complain.
Now that Rafa has started speaking his mind ,others are not so afraid and are voicing their opinions too.

It was a mis-take miscontrued for a fan like myself not to view the match this morning. I arrived later in town, the usual diner, and I turned on to the Scoreboard, and it hit me that Martin got through from 5 to 6 in the fourth set, and won the tie break. I was shocked.. I was virtually for Martin excited that he managed a fifth set anyway. . . To win, is very historical a moment and I know Roger must know what that feels like. If he decides to carry on with life this kind, then it is up to them, thus the children must permanently be their first of priority and is very upmost they are secured and comfortable and most of all, healthy...,
