  • Djokovic in awe of Federer shot-making magic

    9/14/09 7:45 PM | Johan Lindahl
Djokovic in awe of Federer shot-making magic Novak Djokovic could only be amazed by the between-the-legs backwards cross-court winner which gave Roger Federer three match points in spectacular style to reach a sixth straight US Open final.

"I get the feeling he plays more relaxed in the last couple of years, because now he became a father and got married and broke all the records," the stunned Serb said of the 15-time Grand Slam champion.

"He just gets on the court and he wants to play his best and win more. That's what makes him even more dangerous. That's why he plays even better".

Djokivic joined a 23,000-strong crowd in New York in applauding Federer's superhuman effort as he chased a lob. "That shot that he hit, you saw the reaction of the crowd. I mean, what can I say? You just say, 'Well done; too good. What can you do?'"

The Serb has now lost nine of 13 matches in the series but stands 2-2 this season. "I won against this guy four times in the past, so I knew the way I should play".

"But in these moments he comes up with some great shots. He comes up with very, very precise serves, which give him a lot of advantage, and that's why he's the best in the world.

"You've got to give him all the credit for that".

i think one of the "positives" of this match, more than anything, is that despite what people are saying about federer right now, roger respects novak, praises him and still refers to him as "a young gun" - "SWEET". and novak respects roger. whatever is going on right now, i think that important to keep that in focus. This is sport. and yeah. how many times i seen that shot! just honestly aaahhhhh may zin...

Good shot, yes but wasn't it pure luck that it went in, after all Roger was not looking where it was going, was he?

sky sports commentators " not the shot of the match , not the shot of the tournament , perhaps the shot of the year " hahah ...

been watching this shot over n over again ....i still cant believe how sweetly the ball was struck to generate enough pace for it to be a passing shot with djoker at the net ....ridiculous .
