  • Federer quietly impressed with his run of 22 Grand Slam semi-finals

    9/12/09 5:31 PM | Johan Lindahl
Federer quietly impressed with his run of 22 Grand Slam semi-finals Amid his near-constant setting of records in tennis, it's all five-time US Open champion Roger Federer can do to keep it all in perspective, with the 15-time Grand Slam champion now just two wins away from his number 16.

But it's his mark of 22 straight Grand Slam semi-finals archived with his defeat of Robin Soderling in New York which currently attracts his attention. "I think it's just a wonderful record", said the Swiss, adding: "It's nice to have, let's put it that way".

"It's something I never ever aimed for, that's clear, but it's probably one of the greatest records that I've created in my own personal career."

Federer said that after his illness-plagued 2008 campaign, where his fifth straight Flushing Meadows title saved his season, his success this year is gratifying.

"Just this year again reaching semis in all four Slams, if not finals, we'll see about that on Saturday (when he plays Novak Djokovic). But it just shows how lucky I've been that I could stay healthy and always create opportunities".

"Again here I am in the semis and have a chance to hopefully win the tournament again".

hmm....amongst all his records ...this i think is my absolute favorite . i actually like this record more than i do the 15 GS 's . This is one stat that i think will last the test of time and for someone to be consistent for more than 5 years and do this is just supernatural . If there is one thing that is undeniable about the great Fed ...its consistency .

C'MON !!
USO09..where we celebrate our sweet 16th !

Yes Fedexfan, it just shows that Fed has seldom not be there.

In life, you just have to be there sometimes. Just show up on a date to meet your gream lover. Show up for class to learn. Show up for work to get your pay.

In Fed's case, he just shows up so many times in semis and finals, he gets 15 GS.

Even in FO, his least favourite surface, he just keep on entering the final.
