    Gonzalez victorious in all-Chilean battle Fernando Gonzalez advanced to the second round of the US Open, following his straight-sets defeat of compatriot Nicolas Massu. The 11th seed is joined by 30th seed Viktor Troicki, who battled through to win in five sets.

    Eleventh seed Fernando Gonzalez earned his fifth career victory over countryman Nicolas Massu late Tuesday afternoon. Gonzalez passed through the opening round of the US Open with relative ease, defeating Massu 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 in two hours and 4 minutes of play. The 11th seed pocketed two breaks of serve in each set, converting six of 17 opportunities on the day. Gonzalez came through his only tense moment during set three, losing serve as he served for the match at 5-1.

    Gonzalez ended the match with 13 aces and 31 winners. He will take on qualifier Josselin Ouanna in the second round. The Frenchman defeated American Rajeev Ram in the opening round, 7-6, 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

    (30) Viktor Troicki def. (LL) Peter Luczak 6-3, 6-3, 1-6, 2-6, 6-1

    Thirtieth seed Viktor Troicki survived a marathon first-round battle with lucky loser Peter Luczak on Tuesday, holding on to win in five sets after two hours and 50 minutes of play. After capturing the first two sets, Troicki fell behind 0-4 in the third set and 0-2 in the fourth. Luczak won four consecutive games once he broke at 2-2, leveling the match at two sets apiece. The Serb regrouped in the 33-minute decider, securing two breaks of serve to close out the match.

    Troicki completed the day with 14 aces and seven of 17 break point chances converted. The 30th seed meets qualifier Julien Benneteau in round two. The Frenchman rallied to win his first-match over Flavio Cipolla on Tuesday, 4-6, 6-1, 6-3, 6-3.
