  • New Haven - Acasuso pushes into semis

    8/28/09 4:20 PM | Cheryl Murray
New Haven - Acasuso pushes into semis Jose Acasuso continued to defy the odds with another hard court win in New Haven to make the semifinals.

Jose Acasuso is supposed to be a clay-courter. The Argentine has always enjoyed his best results on the dirt. At age 26, Acasuso sits at a respectable, if unimpressive 52 in the world.

Acasuso needed just an hour and twenty-three minutes to get past France's Florent Serra. The Argentine did not serve particularly well in the first set. His first serve percentage sat at 47% and he hit just 2 aces. Still, he had enough on his return to secure 2 service breaks from Serra. The Frenchman was unable to capitalize properly on Acasuso's serving. Serra broke Acasuso once to keep the match on level terms, but as he was serving to force a tiebreak, the Argentine broke a second time to take the lead.

Serra had just one opportunity to break Acasuso in the second set. he was unable to convert, and Acasuso won the match with a single service break.

The Argentine will head into Friday's semifinal against American Sam Querrey, who has been red-hot during the summer hard court swing.

" ACAO " is a furious player. For all to know that.... I'm not sure though if the clay should be his specialty. To me he's more of a hard court sort of bloke. Special knee pads could be worn at all times when performing on 'hard'.
I'm prould of Sam's obtrusive performances.. I know he's a man of the moment and has produced greatly. But, we shall see what happens..!
