One-time top Thai Paradorn Srichaphan refuses to admit that his stalled career might in fact be over at age 30.
With his home Thailand Open approaching in just over a month, the former world No. 9 who has not played in two and a half years insists that he can still return to the ATP.
"I'm not going to quit. I just want to be back when I'm really ready," said Paradorn, once Asia's highest-ranked player in the sport.
Since undergoing 2007 wrist surgery, Paradorn has been everywhere but on a tennis court, marrying a former Miss World, investing in an Italian restaurant and taking up exhibition motorcycle racing at home to the detriment of his tennis return.
He has said he wants to play in the September ATP event, but that deadline appears to be flexible. "My wrist is getting better but not good enough to let me hit like I used to," he said. "At this stage, my chances are 50-50.
"Age is nothing but a number. I have a protected ranking (80th) and can use it anytime," said the winner of five ATP titles and holder of a diplomatic passport in his homeland.
