  • Djokovic pondering addition of Todd Martin as coach

    8/21/09 4:55 AM | Johan Lindahl
Djokovic pondering addition of Todd Martin as coach Serbia's Novak Djokovic adds to his coaching staff going into the US Open.

Novak Djokovic is taking steps to lift himself in the rankings, and
is hoping to have former player Todd Martin on board in an Andy
Murray-style revolving coaching team in time for the start of the US
Open in just over a week.

"We've been talking about it and we're finalising the conversations
and negotiations," said the No. 4 who has been unable to break the
stranglehold of the ATP elite with Roger Federer, Andy Murray and
Rafael Nadal dominating the top ranking spots.

"Hopefully we are going to be able to start working prior to the US
Open. That would be a great experience for me. Of course, he's
experienced long years on the tour as a player and as a coach as
well, and it will help me a lot."

Martin, 39, who played the New York final a decade ago, is ideally
based in Florida to help out Team Djokovic. His only other coaching
experience came during a brief time with Mardy Fish.

Djokovic insists that longtime coach Marian Vajda, at the helm for
the last three years, will stay in his position. If the deal is
done, it won't be the first time that Djokovic has taken on some
    additional help.

Several seasons ago he worked with Australian doubles ace Mark
Woodforde during the spring hardcourt season, with specific emphasis
    on volleys and net play.

2008 Australian Open champion Djokovic is desperate for renewed
results after failing to get past the quarter-finals in Grand Slams
    this season.

Novak belongs to ATP elite for quite time, so I don't wanna let anyone to have an influence on world wide known fact, it's not even worth for comment at all, furthermore, Novak is very well educated young man who knows exactly what some people talk over there, and he doesn't give a penny for it, propaganda is dangerous matter, thanks to God, Nole don't pay attention at all, smart guy...
