Canadian outsider Frederic Niemeyer nurses long-odds hopes of catching new father Roger Federer after a sleepless night as he dreams of an upset win at his home Montreal Masters.
But that is a most unlikely scenario as Federer - his wife, twins and a baby nurse all travelling on privagte jets for the five week-run through the US Open - plays his first match since winning a sixth Wimbledon title.
Niemeyer, a 33-year-old, will face a showcase match for the second time in Montreal six years after being beaten by Andre Agassi in the first round here.
"I played here once when my (infant) daughter was two weeks old", said Niemeyer, 1-2 this season who retires at the end of the season. "I didn't sleep much that week".
"Hopefully it will be the same for Roger. He will be off a bit and I can take advantage", he said with a smile. "He's maybe the best to ever play and it will be tough for me".
"Hopefully my serve will help me out, but I'll have to take some risks", said the winner of just over $6,000 this season.
But Niemeyer can't bank on any Federer lapse after the July 23 birth of his twin daughters. "I'm excited to see how I'm going to handle the new family situation", said the No. 1.
