  • Bellucci and Beck forge ahead to finals

    8/2/09 3:42 AM | Cheryl Murray
Bellucci and Beck forge ahead to finals Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci reached his second ATP Tour final of 2009 with a win over Igor Andreev. Andreas Beck of Germany also advanced on Saturday.

Thomaz Bellucci def. Igor Andreev 6-4, 7-5

Gstaad has been a sort of resurgence for Thomaz Bellucci. The Brazlian had a great result in Costa Do Sauipe in the beginning of the season, but has since fell away. He handed Igor Andreev a straight set defeat in the semifinals on Saturday. Bellucci was tough on serve. He allowed Andreev just one break point opportunity in the match (in the second set). Andreev was unable to convert on that chance. Bellucci played just well enough to take a break in each set - and he was smart enough to take advantage of questionable form from Andreev in the right moments. Bellucci will take on Andreas Beck of Germany in Sunday's final.

Andreas Beck def. Marcos Daniel 7-6(3), 6-3

Sunday could have been the battle of the Brazilians. Brazil was a one-time tennis giant who produced great champions like Gustavo Kuerten, but has seen a dearth of top players lately. Marcos Daniel was not quite able to join countryman Thomaz Bellucci in the final. Andreas Beck of Germany weathered 10 aces from Daniel to advance in straight sets. Despite the number of aces, Daniel had some problems on serve. He was forced to fight off 7 break points of 8 that Beck earned. The single break of serve, which came in the second set, was enough to seal the win for the German. Beck did not face a single break point and though the first set was close, the German never seemed in danger of losing the match.
