    Sela, Querrey advance in Los Angeles, Kunitsyn ousted Tournament seeds Dudi Sela and Sam Querrey move through to the quarterfinals of the LA Tennis Open on Thursday. Fifth seed Igor Kunitsyn fell to Leonardo Mayer in three sets.

    Fourth seed Dudi Sela advanced to the quarterfinals of the LA Tennis Open Thursday afternoon, defeating American Robert Kendrick in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1. The 24-year-old converted three of 6 break point opportunities on the afternoon, securing a spot among the final eight after an hour and 49 minutes of play. The American struggled on his second serve in the deciding set, winning just 33% of the points.

    Sela will take on sixth seed Sam Querrey in the quarterfinals. The 21-year-old American came through a tough match with wildcard compatriot Ryan Sweeting in the second round, 6-3, 6-7, 6-3.

    Leonardo Mayer def. (5) Igor Kunitsyn 7-6, 6-7, 6-3

    Leonardo Mayer defeated fifth seed Igor Kunitsyn on Thursday, battling his way into the Los Angeles quarterfinals. The 22-year-old Argentine dropped 11 of 12 points in a losing-effort in the second set tie-break, having served for the match twice after leading 5-2. Mayer recovered to snag a break of serve mid-way through set three, finishing the marathon match in two hours and 43 minutes. The Argentine completed the afternoon with 9 aces and 9 double faults, converting five of 12 break points.

    Mayer awaits the winner of the Fish-Guccione second-round clash to be played late Thursday evening.

    (6) Sam Querrey def. (Q) Ryan Sweeting 6-3, 6-7, 6-3

    Sixth seed Sam Querrey dismissed fellow American Ryan Sweeting in three sets late Thursday afternoon. Querrey survived a 0-5 deficit in the second set, posting a 6-3, 6-7, 6-3 victory in an hour and 57 minutes. The 21-year-old earned a service break at love to take a 3-1 lead in the third. Querrey, who struck 15 aces during the match, finished the deciding set without facing a break point. The sixth-seeded American moves through to his third consecutive tournament quarterfinal.
