Brazil’s Thomaz Bellucci took out another Swiss player on Thursday. His victim this time, the No. 1 seed Stanislas Wawrninka.
In the upset of the Allianz Suisse Open, Thomaz Bellucci ousted a flat Stanislas Wawrinka in straight sets. Bellucci breezed through the match in an hour and fifteen minutes, stunning both Wawrinka and the Swiss fans that came out to support him.
Wawrinka’s return was completely ineffective in the first set. He won just 4 points on Bellucci’s serve for the set. He never had a sniff of a break point on the Brazilian’s serve. The fact that Bellucci served at just 54% for the set did not make any difference for Wawrinka. Bellucci capitalized on 1 of 2 break points to put away the first set.
The second set was no kinder to the Swiss man. Wawrinka fared a bit better on Bellucci’s first serves. He won 7 of 22 points, but he still earned no break points. Bellucci once again proved highly efficient on break point chances. He converted on his only opportunity. As it had in the first set, the single break was enough to take the set.
Bellucci will take on Germany’s Nicolas Kiefer in the quarterfinals on Friday.

Stan is awesome when his game is there for him. Sadly still lacks consistancy and lost 7 times as a <1.30 favourite over the last year. Including twice over his last two tournaments. Hope he finds his form for the hard courts.
