Romania’s Victor Crivoi flattened No. 8 seed Philipp Kohlschreiber in the first round in Gstaad on Monday. Igor Andreev also moved through.
Victor Crivoi def. Philipp Kohlschreiber 6-4, 6-0
In a particularly dismal effort from the No. 2 seed, Philipp Kohlschreiber was dispatched at the hands of Victor Crivoi. The first set was not terrible from the German. Kohlschreiber was able to fight off 4 of the 5 break points against him. The problem for Kohlschreiber was that he was not able to make any sort of dent on Crivoi’s serve. The Romanian did not face a single break point en route to snagging the opening set 6-4. The second set was a complete disaster for Kohlschreiber. He was unable to win another game for the match as Crivoi fed him a bagel for the second set.
Igor Andreev def. Diego Junqueira 7-5, 6-4
No. 3 seed Igor Andreev from Russia had a surprisingly difficult time against Diego Junquiero of Argentina, who is ranked 125 in the world. In the early goings of the opening set, Andreev and Junquiera traded breaks of serve. Just when it seemed that the set would be decided in a tiebreak, Andreev secured another break of serve. The second set played similarly to the first. Andreev once again surrendered a service break, and once again the Russian was able to take 2 from his opponent. The most telling statistic of the match was that the Argentine saved no break points. Andreev converted on every chance he got. The Russian will play Jan Hernych in the second round.
