David Ferrer advanced to the quarterfinals late Thursday evening after defeating a tough opponent in Juan Monaco. The Spaniard outlasted the Argentine in three hard-fought sets.

Sixth seed David Ferrer had his hands full with Swedish Open finalist Juan Monaco on Thursday, needing two hours and 16 minutes to move through to the last eight in Hamburg. The Spaniard surrendered a 3-0 lead in both the first and second sets, but held on to take a 4-2 lead in the decider. Ferrer missed three match point chances before converting the fourth following a forehand error from Monaco.
Ferrer meets Simon Greul in the quarterfinal round. The German wildcard beat Ivan Navarro in straight sets, 7-5, 7-6.
(11) Victor Hanescu def. Julien Benneteau 3-6, 6-3, 6-3
Eleventh seed Victor Hanescu survived a tough competitor in Julien Benneteau on Thursday, rallying from a 3-6 deficit to book a spot in the Hamburg quarterfinals. The Romanian, who secured a key break of serve to lead 3-1 in the third set, battled for an hour and 53 minutes before dismissing the Frenchman in three sets, 3-6, 6-3, 6-3. With the victory, Hanescu advances to the final eight for the first time in three attempts.
The Stuttgart finalist will take on second seed Nikolay Davydenko in the quarterfinals. The Russian defeated Stuttgart title-winner Jeremy Chardy in straight sets Thursday afternoon, 6-3, 6-3.
