David Ferrer and Juan Monaco advanced to the third round of the International German Open on Wednesday. Julien Benneteau upset seventh seed Igor Andreev in straight sets.

Sixth seed David Ferrer turned in a solid second-round performance against wildcard Florian Mayer Wednesday afternoon, defeating the German in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. The Spaniard snagged four breaks during the 70-minute match, easing into the next round without surrendering serve. Ferrer moves ahead of Mayer 3-2 in their head-to-head series, earning a spot in the Hamburg round of 16 for the fourth consecutive year.
Ferrer will contest his next match against Juan Monaco.
Julien Benneteau def. (7) Igor Andreev 6-4, 6-3
Julien Benneteau posted his second career win over Igor Andreev on Wednesday, ousting the seventh seed in straight sets after an hour and 36 minutes of play. The Russian dropped a quartet of service breaks, winning only 9 of 20 points on his second serve. The Frenchman struck three aces on the day, capturing 62% of his first and second-service points. The 27-year-old advances to the round of 16 for the first time since his 2007 tournament debut.
Benneteau faces Stuttgart finalist Victor Hanescu in the third round. The Romanian came through his second-round battle with Jan Hernych in a little over an hour, 6-2, 6-3.
Juan Monaco def. (12) Jose Acasuso 6-1, 1-1 (retired)
Juan Monaco moved into the third round after compatriot Jose Acasuso was forced to retire with a neck injury at the beginning of the second set. The 25-year-old Argentine had built a 6-1, 1-1 lead before play was halted during the 42nd minute of the match.
Monaco meets sixth seed David Ferrer in the round of 16.
