Nikolay Davydenko kicked off his International German Open in winning fashion on Wednesday, posting a straight-sets victory over Philipp Petzschner. The Russian moves safely into the round of 16.
Second seed Nikolay Davydenko made a strong start to the Hamburg tournament Wednesday afternoon, ensuring safe passage into the round of 16 after defeating Philipp Petzschner. The Russian held nine of nine service games during the 71-minute second-round battle, saving three break points en route to a 6-3, 6-2 win.
The 27-year-old, who reached the Hamburg final four in 2005, posted solid all-around numbers during the match. Davydenko converted three of six break-point chances while winning 74% of the points on first serve and 75% on the second. With the win, the Russian improves his 2009 season to 21-8.
Davydenko will take to the court against Stuttgart title-winner Jeremy Chardy in the round of 16. The 22-year-old Frenchman dismissed German Andreas Beck in two tiebreak sets.
