Robredo falls to Navarro at German Open Former Hamburg champion Tommy Robredo lost his opening-round match to compatriot Ivan Navarro early Tuesday. Navarro moves safely through to the round of 16.

Unseeded Ivan Navarro upset fourth seed and 2006 German Open title-winner Tommy Robredo, posting a straight-set victory in the second round on Tuesday. The 103rd-ranked Spaniard, playing his first event in Hamburg, defeated the World No. 16, 7-5, 7-6 after an hour and 57 minutes of competition.

Navarro, surrendering serve only once during the match, converted two key breaks of the Robredo serve to secure a spot in the round of 16. The Spaniard completed the match winning 77% of his first-service points and 67% of his second.

With the win, Navarro improves his 2009 record to 7-16, capturing back-to-back victories for the first time since he advanced to the semifinal-round of the Ordina Open during the grass-court season.

The Spaniard awaits the winner of the second-round match between the German pair of 16th-seeded Mischa Zverev and wildcard Simon Greul.
