    Hamburg - Germans advance to second round, Tipsarevic ousted Hometown talents Philipp Petzschner and Andreas Beck moved through to the second round of competition at the International German Open on Monday. Janko Tipsarevic fell to wildcard Simon Greul in three sets.

    Simon Greul is through to the second round in Hamburg, rallying from a 2-6 deficit to knock out Janko Tipsarevic in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-3. The 28-year-old German fought his way out of trouble, securing four of 9 break point chances to defeat the 70th-ranked Serb in two hours and 5 minutes of play.

    Greul, playing in his sixth tournament in Stuttgart, improves his record to 6-7 for the season. He will take on compatriot and16th seed Mischa Zverev in the second round.

    Philipp Petzschner def. Florent Serra 7-6, 6-2

    Philipp Petzschner recorded his second career win over Florent Serra Monday afternoon, dismissing the Frenchman in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2. The German fought off ten of 10 break points against him en route to an opening-set tie-break. Petzschner went on to complete an easier second set, converting four of 5 break point opportunities to ensure safe passage into the next round after an hour and 23 minutes.

    The 40th-ranked Petzschner faces second seed Nikolay Davydenko in round two.

    Andreas Beck def. Oscar Hernandez 6-7, 6-4, 6-4

    Andreas Beck leveled the head-to-head series with Oscar Hernandez at 1-1 Monday evening, digging out of a set deficit to join a trio of his countrymen in the second round. The 23-year-old German trailed 6-7, but rallied to defeat the Spaniard after two hours and 51 minutes, 6-7, 6-4, 6-4. Beck pocketed four of 17 break point chances on his way to victory.

    Beck, ranked 52nd in the world, advances to battle Mercedes Cup champion and 15th seed Jeremy Chardy in the next round.
