  • Querrey gets past Santoro, into final

Querrey gets past Santoro, into final Sam Querrey set up an all-American clash in Newport with his straight set victory over Fabrice Santoro.

Sam Querrey will get the opportunity to try for his second ATP tour title on Sunday. The American’s only other ATP tournament win was last year in Las Vegas. He earned a spot in his third tour final with an impressive straight set victory over France’s Fabrice Santoro.

Querrey’s success on Saturday lay almost exclusively on the shoulders of his serve. He smacked an impressive 18 aces over the two set match. So impressive on serve was Querrey that Santoro never earned a single break point.

The first set was tidy from Querrey. He won all but 3 points on his serve and he was quick to convert on the only break point chance he had. Except the one service break, Santoro held fairly comfortably; his big problem was on the return. The Frenchman simply could not dent Querrey’s serve at all.

There was no momentum shift in the second set. Querrey continued to serve well. He blasted 11 aces past Santoro, though he was not quite as efficient on second serve points (he won 5 of 10 in the set). Santoro also served well. He held off Querrey long enough to force the tiebreak. The American’s excellent serving continued and Santoro bade goodbye with a 7-3 scoreline.

Querrey will take on lucky loser Rajeev Ram in Sunday’s final.

this guy is amazing when he wants to be. against cilic at wimble'on, he was fantastic and nearly won especially when cili seemed fully charged. i can view sambu going the distance but he needs a relax and focus nicely. (to the fans, i will be creating another a/c under ize-mun as this one also is wearing out. Like be-ware of .. ha ha,..)

Boo hoo for Fabrice, but yay for the USA. Love Fabrice - he's won this tourney before, so I had high hopes. Maybe he'll get a little luck at the USO and make a mini run.
