The rain-plagued tournament in Newport finally got back on schedule today. American Sam Querrey was forced to play his second round and quarterfinal matches.
Sam Querrey put in overtime on Friday. First, he played a three set match against Prakash Amritraj to advance to the quarterfinals. Amritraj was able to snag the first set from Querrey in a tightly played tiebreaker; the Indian took the set with 9-7 in the breaker.
Querrey came out in the second set more motivated. The American traversed the set with relative ease. Amritraj did not have any break point opportunities; Querrey won the set when he converted the only break point chance of the set.
Querrey continued his good play through the third set to take the match, and with just a few hours of rest, he was back on court against Kevin Kim in the quarterfinals. Fellow American Kim did not put up much resistance; Querrey breezed through in straight sets.
