The No. 3 seed Sam Querrey slid past Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in easy straight sets to advance at the Hall of Fame Championships in Newport.
American Sam Querrey needed just 59 minutes to get past Spain’s Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo on Wednesday. The American has made a good showing on grass in 2009. He advanced to the third round of Wimbledon, where he took No. 13 ranked Marin Cilic of Croatia to 5 sets. His form carried through in this first round match.
Hidalgo never really forged a fighting chance on Wednesday. The Spaniard’s serving has little bite to it, and even on a slick, fast grass court, he had difficulty holding. Querrey broke twice in the opening set (though he was broken once himself). The American tossed in just two aces, but that was plenty good enough to pocket the first set.
Querrey was even tougher in the second set. He did not face a single break point, hit 4 aces and closed out the match with a tidy 6-2 scoreline. He will face India’s Prakash Amritraj in the second round.

Querrey should step up and win this thing now that Fish has left for Davis Cup - tall order though, right?
