  • All-go for late-night drinkies at Wimbledon

All-go for late-night drinkies at Wimbledon Wimbledon pubs are expecting a gold mine from 2010 as Merton council gave the All England club permission to play tennis for as long as it wants, thanks to the new moveable roof and lights.

Local media report that, in addition, pubs will not be stopped from late openings when matches run into the early morning hours. That's a potential 15,000-plus thirsty fans who may have streamed out of Centre court.

BBC figures show that a near-record 12.6 million viewers at least watched some of the Murray match on TV. The all-time best was 13.1 for the Roger Federer-Rafael Nadal 2008 final.

Huge American television money is also in the mix, with midnight in London equating nicely to the start of prime time on the New York-Washington east coast, when ad rates are the highest.

I was fortunate to witness the first closing of the roof which Dina became the first player to win under. An amazing job to be proud of. We should be prepared for these major changes.
