Tommy Haas says his age of 31 means relatively little after reaching a first career Wimbledon quarter-final. And the German says his numerous months for multiple shoulder survives may now be helping him extend his shelf life on court.
"Age is really just a number in many ways", said the German, a one-time no. 2. "I know that I am 31. I have a little bit more miles in my legs than maybe some other players that are younger than me".
"Once you're out there, I think you leave that all behind and just go out there and compete and try to win".
Haas said that the absence of injured world No. 1 Rafael Nadal has given this year's edition a somewhat different tone.
"It obviously has helped Roger (Federer) that Nadal is not playing here. Nadal, anywhere he goes, is also a favourite to win the tournament, just as Roger is".
"Roger is now for sure the favourite to win this tournament, he deserves to be back to No. 1. If you win these big tournaments back to back, which he hasn't done yet, but if he does, then that's how it goes".
