Roger Federer has joined in tributes to popstar Michael Jackson, recalling as a child he stood outside the hall at a concert held by the entertainer when he once came to Switzerland two decades ago.
"Back maybe in 1988 or 1989, he came to Basel", said the five-time Wimbledon winner. "I was outside of the stadium, because there was such excitement that he would come.
"I was still very young", said the 27-year-old. "I think I went there with my sister, and we just listened from the outside. I've always listened to his music.
"Obviously, I love his music. It's a very sad moment in the music world. He touched many people, same for me. But I'll obviously still listen to his music for many more years to come."

posmatrac , 6/27/09 4:07 PM :
Roger is paying his respect to MJ...don't u get the simplest thing?
I thought u were all interested to hear Roger's credits when it is NOT due,now u have a problem with giving credit where it's due?
anyway...RIP MJ, sorry..
.he's a guy to be remembered.
niloofar , 6/27/09 7:28 PM
okay...homos....exual....just EXACTLY what is YOUR problem...I posted the interview of fed re: kohlshreiber and soderling for the FEDFANS...I didn't write the article...I posted it....what the hell is wrong with you? You say I talk crap so why don't you just ignore any of the articles I post...because by definition...you are calling the interviews crap...what roger says crap...what kohlshreiber says crap...what soderling says crap.....you cannot have it both ways....homos....exual....now can you? Just go away and get a life yourself....you are becoming boring and actually...i have read a few of your posts on other threads from a while ago...and all you do is come on and criticise...you add NOTHING to the forum homos...exual....nothing....why don't you do something about that? I actually have a life thanks very much...am very happy to be a fedfan...to SHARE my views/opinions with fedfans.....almost finished my masters....which is great news homos...how are you doing in the studying department my friend? the sun is shining here and life is good....thanks for being so thoughtful about what i do with my life....thanks homos...exual....your the best...xx
malteser1 , 6/27/09 7:56 PM
niloofar, let me clarify. i was commenting this:
"Obviously, I love his music ....But I'll obviously still listen to his music for many more years to come".
sorry, for me MJ's music (and similar) simply doesn't have any value.
posmatrac , 6/27/09 8:19 PM
pos...that is THE most disrespectful thing you can say...Michael Jackson is an Icon and was already an ICON and a POP LEGEND before he passed away...you are in a minority...go listen to trevor nelson on a saturday night...7pm....tribute to MJ and how he affected so many people's lives all around the world....whether you like his music or not....to say that MJ's music simply doesn't have any value is just....well...there are no words........
Guiness book of records...even..........83 million world wide sales......it's the all time seller and we are going back to the 1980's and ITS still the best selling album of all time....yeah...i can see what you say...it has no value? Are you for real?
malteser1 , 6/27/09 9:15 PM
posmatrac: I know what u were commenting on...but u don't expect him to say:"for me MJ's music simply doesn't have any value" when he's asked about someone who has recently passed away(asked about the impact on music world)...
btw: Fed listens to every type of music except rap,his music interest is from rock to opera..
anyway the thread is about paying respect to MJ and not about Fed's choice of music.
RIP MJ...
niloofar , 6/27/09 9:16 PM
postmac wrote:"i am surprised that fed still listens to music for teenagers and his music taste has not evolved yet".....Postmac....apparently you have never been a fan of MJ because if you were then you would know that he had music expanded all different ages.
He was a great humanatarioan and some of his music was about how to make the world a better place and all of it was not hip-hop .But....Everyone have there likes and dislikes .
alik , 6/27/09 9:19 PM
This thread is about the sad death of Michael Jackson, some people can't even respect that, they have to trawl the forum and infiltrate all the threads with talk of Federer. Give us a break.
RIP Michael Jackson+
carrie , 6/27/09 9:49 PM
I know carrie. Is the same post on almost every thread.
Some are too young to truly understand the change MJ's music brought to how music is now marketed, videoed and accepted. Many were only 7 or so (like fed) when he first heard him. But those of us old enough when "Thriller" came out, knew it was different and things would never be the same. He also helped with the acceptance of black artists and dancers by paving the way. RIP
fan4tennis , 6/27/09 10:09 PM
he also had some controversial hobbies as well.
posmatrac , 6/27/09 10:53 PM
Yes he did posmatrac, but no need to speak of those right after his death. Let's try not to speak ill of the dead. His many contributions to the music world will suffice.
fan4tennis , 6/27/09 10:59 PM
...I've been listening to MJs music the last few days, glad to know his world fame was as real as I thought. Surprised Fed liked him, but kinda think it is cute.
RIP MJ! I'm still listening!
Recordbreaks , 6/28/09 2:03 AM
carrie , 6/27/09 9:49 PM : with all respect to MJ it was NOT Fed fans who brought the discussion to Fed. if u read from the top.
RIP MJ.
niloofar , 6/28/09 12:42 PM
Posmac: Even if you dont like the guy's music, there is no reason to say it doesnt have value. He has done a lot of charity and his music carry a lot of message. Nadal have some controversial habits too but a lot of people respect him so no need to mention about it. Just focus on what MJ has done for the world.
torres9 , 6/28/09 3:11 PM
Toress9: you do charity when you want to write off your taxes, when i said no value i meant artistic value. Don't know how Nadal came into the picture, but his habits still don't not require high court attention.
posmatrac , 6/28/09 6:15 PM
Posmac, why do you have to always take it negatively? A person gives charity and you say he's avoiding taxes. Then is it better that he did not give charity? Do we have to wait for 'sincere' people like you to give charity then?
torres9 , 6/28/09 7:33 PM
torres, Why did you feel it necessary to mention Nadal (out of all the people in the world) in this conversation?
fan4tennis , 6/28/09 9:35 PM
niloofar: carrie was talking about malteser's post at 6/27/09 5:50PM (her cheering was totally inappropriate for a thread mourning a death).
fan4tennis , 6/28/09 10:03 PM
niloofar...as i have mentioned to you before....try it I-G-N-O-R-E fft posts...she is trying to start a fight.....holier than tho' should read the hideous, disrespectful posts of rafa fan...posmatrac.....to which she commented the following:
Yes he did posmatrac, but no need to speak of those right after his death. Let's try not to speak ill of the dead. His many contributions to the music world will suffice.
apart from being rafa's spokesperson...she is also michael jackson's......
she is also niloofar trying to start a fight on a thread when SHE should be respecting the mighty jackson....it will fall on deaf ears in her case...so be warned my friend...
malteser1 , 6/28/09 10:45 PM
niloofar: carrie was talking about malteser's post at 6/27/09 5:50PM (her cheering was totally inappropriate for a thread mourning a death).
fan4tennis , 6/28/09 10:54 PM
F4T stop wasting your time. maltosser is an idiot. she has no idea what appropriate and inappropriate is. all she does is wax lyrical about roger, lives on cloud 9 and has no connection with reality whatsoever. there are no boundaries to her blind worship of roger which further blinds her to everything else. she can post whatever she wants in whichever thread she pleases but is quick to run to cheryl crying when she doesn't get her way - just like the one worships! forever crying. see a pattern??
homos , 6/29/09 4:37 AM
f4t, I did not say anything negative about Nadal. Just doing some analogies here.
torres9 , 6/29/09 5:51 AM
the mighty jackson reached no. 1 in the album charts in UK...showing pos that despite what you said earlier about his music 'having no value'....clearly shoots that to the ground my friend! We all miss you Michael...a huge loss to the world.....
homos the compliments are returned to you my friend with bells on top but in respect of rafa......
malteser1 , 6/29/09 6:50 AM
Homos and postmac have a thing for the no.1 people in their respective field, Federer in tennis and MJ in Pop. I think it is easy to guess that this is only envy.
torres9 , 6/29/09 7:10 AM
F4T, obsessive-compulsive disorder is her diagnosis, just ignore.
posmatrac , 6/29/09 7:25 AM
hey possy boy...asking for back up? I think OCD is your bag babe.....you sure can dish out the insults and criticism but when its batted back to you....you go all cry baby.....poor possy boy.....grow up and talk tennis....that would actually be a F-I-R-S-T for you possy boy.....
malteser1 , 6/29/09 10:04 AM
@ malteser1
i have one question, what do you do for a living? dont get me wrong, its just my curiosity...
