British bookmakers fear an Andy Murray Wimbledon victory in two week's time even as the rest of the nation is cheering the Scot on.
The world No. 3 has been backed by up to 3 million sterling ($4.8 million) at one firm alone, with bookies almost choking on their strawberries as support grows.
For Ladbrokes of London, a Murray title win would be the worst possible financial scenario. The last Briton to win Wimbledon was Fred Perry in 1936.
"Murray has been giving us sleepless nights for months - a victory for him doesn't bear thinking about", said a spokesman. "If he wins in a fortnight's time we might as well give up the game and go strawberry picking".
"All the patriotic tenners and twenties (sterling notes) are on Murray. He will be the worst result in tennis betting history".
With the withdrawal of injured Rafael Nadal, Murray's chances have been thrust even more to the fore, with some already dreaming of a Roger Federer-Murray final.
Murray and 8/11 (1.73) favourite Federer are the best backed competitors at SW19, and stand 11/10 (2.10) to meet in the final. He holds 1/100 (1.01) odds to dispatch American Robert Kendrick in his opening match and 1/6 (1.17) not to drop a set.

I read the latest comments from Fed about Murray and the media really likes to spin things up. The title is 'Federer:Murray not my biggest threat' but when I read the article, Fed gave so many compliments to Murray and still the title is like that.
I agree with what said that there are actually a lot of other players to look for. Delpo, Tsonga, Djokovic but of course Murray stands out because he is a British and also because people want him to win his 1st Slam so much.
I think Murray can win it if he plays his best but he has never met a lot of opponents on grass and he has to get his tactics right to win every match against different opponents especially a hot-streak player.
