Roger Federer is disappointed to have missed a possible chance at Wimbledon revenge against Rafael Nadal, out of action with a kneee injury at the biggest date of the tennis year.
"It's disappointing for me because I‘d love to play him", said Federer who beat Nadal in two Wimbledon finals before losing his title to his rival last year.
"He‘s my main rival, we‘ve had some wonderful matches over the years, and especially the one here last year was the one that obviously stands out", said the 14-time winner at majors who could break the all-time mark with his sixth Wimbledon trophy.
"It just shows me how lucky I‘ve been that I haven‘t been injured over all those years, that I‘ve been able to keep it up. I‘m sad for him, because it must have been a very difficult decision to make".
Andy Murray, whose hopes are increasing by the day after Nadal‘s pullout, voiced similar sentiments to Federer, now the reigning French Open champion.
"It‘s obviously a shame", said the third seed, now the focus if intense British trophy dreams. "I think over the last couple of days it was kind of expected. It sounded like he was struggling in the (exhibition) matches that he played".
"He‘s my favorite player to watch, so I‘m sure the fans who wanted to come to see him will all be disappointed. But he‘s got to do what‘s best for him".

vrael: it's true and said many times. Andy also seems to like him v. much. They got to know each other when Andy trained in Spain for two years.

Eh...I suspect part of Federer is truly disappointed that he can't versus Nadal, another part is probably stress like when he verses Haas after Nadal lost. Murray is younger, he is probably sad because it seems he likes Rafa but I think he might be more relaxed than Federer at the prospect of making the finals with Nadal gone.

I like this part:
Q. Did you see him at all during the week here?
ROGER FEDERER: Uhm, on Wednesday maybe, just briefly.
Q. Did you chat at all?
ROGER FEDERER: Chat? 10 second chat maybe (smiling). He congratulated me for Paris. It was good to see him. I asked him how his knee was. He was like, it's okay. So I kind of knew it wasn't great, because he's very honest to me. So I knew that something could be coming up.
******
I like the part where he says 'Rafa is very honest to me'...
best wishes for Rafa's injury...get well soon!!
Go roger!
