Becker wins first ATP World Tour title at Ordina Open Benjamin Becker took home his first career title on Saturday, following a straight-sets dismissal of Raemon Sluiter at the Ordina Open.

German qualifier Benjamin Becker continued his terrific grass-court run this season, taking home top honors at the Ordina Open Saturday afternoon. The 28-year-old knocked out hometown wildcard Raemon Sluiter in straight sets, 7-5, 6-3.

The World No. 82 crushed 11 aces during the match, bringing his tally to 57 for the tournament. The German did not face a break point on the afternoon, holding a perfect eleven of 11 service games in an hour and 16 minutes. Becker played a near-flawless second set, winning 100% of his points on first serve.

Becker adds his name to a short list of qualifiers who have reached an ATP World Tour final this season, joining this week’s Eastbourne runner-up Frank Dancevic (lost to Tursunov) and Delray Beach finalist Evgeny Korolev (lost to Fish). The German, who made his professional debut in 2005, successfully pockets his first championship in two attempts, having reached the 2007 finals of the tournament in Bangkok (lost to Tursunov).

Becker had been on a tear since April, snagging three events on the ATP Challenger Tour heading into last week’s tournament in Halle. The German performed very well in Germany, battling into the quarterfinals before falling to Belgian Olivier Rochus in three hard-fought sets, 7-6, 3-6, 3-6.

Becker extends his grass-court record to 7-1 on the season. The German kicks off his Wimbledon campaign next week, scheduled to meet Roko Karanusic of Croatia in the opening round.

According to the ATP calendar featured on the home-page, the Ordina Tournament, now renamed UNICEF, has been moved to New Zealand.

Is it too much to ask that when Wimbledon starts we could have daily updates of the draw and results?
