Dmitry Tursunov reaches the quarterfinals of the AEGON International by surviving Alex Bogdanovic in a third-set tiebreaker on Wednesday. Sam Querrey falls to unseeded Denis Istomin.
Denis Istomin d. (6) Sam Querrey 3-6, 7-6(3), 6-4
Istomin booked a surprising place in the AEGON International quarterfinals by coming back from a set down and upsetting Querrey on Wednesday afternoon. The sixth-seeded American could not sustain the momentum from a dominant first set in which he earned seven break points (converting one) and lost a mere four points in five service games. After neither player could break serve in the second, Istomin eased through the tiebreaker and never looked back. Istomin, the world No. 79 from Uzbekistan, lost only six points in his last five service games, so one break was enough for him to take the set and the match. Next up for Istomin is Dmitry Tursunov.
(2) Dmitry Tursunov d. Alex Bogdanovic 6-7(2), 6-4, 7-6(5)
A back-and-forth affair saw Tursunov finally prevail over Bogdanovic after two hours and 33 minutes. Bogdanovic, however, seized an early edge by dominating the tiebreaker after no breaks of serve took place in the first set. Tursunov broke once in the second--in part thanks to five Bogdanovic double-faults--and made it stand up by saving both of the break points he faced. From there it looked like the second-seeded Russian would run away with it, but Bogdanovic recovered from a break deficit in the third to force a final tiebreaker. The British qualifier went up a quick mini-break in the decider, but Tursunov's experience won out in the end and he took it seven points to five.
Leonardo Mayer d. Julien Benneteau 6-4, 6-4
Mayer generally prefers clay, but he enjoyed an impressive serving day on the grass courts of Eastbourne and upended Benneteau in relatively easy straight sets. The 70th-ranked Argentine set up a quarterfinal clash with Frank Dancevic after one hour and 24 minutes. He won more than 60 percent of the points even when he had to put in a second serve against Benneteau and he was broken just once. Mayer finished with a solid seven aces to no double-faults, while the French veteran stuck almost as many double-faults (3) as aces (4).

Maybe Istomin can get himself into the semi's - It looks like Querrey's title count (1)may never grow again...he's only 21 but...
What's up with Isner?
